By choosing an internet plan that fits your usage, you can be sure you won’t end up paying more than necessary for services you don’t use.
Internet Only Do you watch everything online via Netflix
, YouTube, or Videoland and never watch live TV? Then an internet-only plan is the most affordable choice.
Internet + TV
Do you want to watch TV? Then choose an internet and TV subscription, which often includes a TV app that lets you watch live on multiple devices, such as your tablet or laptop.
All-in-1
Do you still use a landline? With an all-in-1 package, you can combine internet, TV, and phone service into one affordable subscription.
Bundle
Discount Do you combine your internet with a mobile plan from the same provider? Then you often get an extra discount, more data, or a free TV package. In our comparison tool, you can easily select your mobile provider, and we’ll immediately show you where you can save.
With our internet comparison tool, you can immediately see which connections are available at your address. In most areas, you can choose between DSL, cable, or fiber optic.
DSL internet is internet via the phone line. It’s available almost everywhere in the Netherlands and is the cheapest type of connection. You have a wide choice of providers and plans.
Cable internet offers high speeds via the coaxial TV cable. This provides fast and reliable internet. Ziggo is the only internet provider that offers nationwide service, so there is little competition. If fiber-optic internet isn’t available yet, this is a good option.
Fiber optic internet is the fastest and most stable connection. If it’s available at your address, this is always the best choice. You have a fairly wide selection of providers and plans.
Currently, more than half of all households in the Netherlands have access to fiber optic internet, and this number will only continue to grow in the coming years. Want to know if fiber optic internet plans are available at your address? Take our fiber optic check to see which fiber optic plans are available for your home.
In rare cases, a fixed internet connection isn’t (fully) possible, for example, if you live in a remote area. In that case, you can opt for 4G for home use.

When comparing internet plans, it’s important to consider the speed you choose. Opting for a speed that’s too high is a waste of money, since you’ll end up paying more than necessary for extra speed you won’t use. On the other hand, you don’t want a speed that’s too low, so that everyone at home can comfortably go about their business at the same time without getting in each other’s way.
| Speed in Mbit/s | Suitable for |
|---|---|
| 50 Mbit/s (low) | Browsing the internet, emailing |
| 100 Mbit/s (average) | Great for everyday use, up to 2 people |
| 200–400 Mbit/s (fast) | Ideal for families or for online gaming/streaming |
| 1000–8000 Mbit/s (very fast) | For large households |
DELTA and Odido are the fastest internet providers. They offer speeds of up to 8 Gbit/s via fiber optic. Next comes KPN with 4 Gbit/s and Odido with 2 Gbit/s.
These high internet speeds are far from available at all locations. But they aren’t necessary for many households either.
If you're not sure what speed you need for your situation, you can use the following speed recommendations.
This speed is sufficient if you mainly use the internet for browsing, email, social media, and streaming.
We recommend this speed if multiple people are using the internet at the same time, such as for intensive streaming, or if you frequently work from home. Playing light online games is also no problem at this speed.
On average, more than half (54.4%) of households can get by with a 100 Mbps internet speed, according to Telecommonitor.
Does your household include one or more avid online gamers? Or do you regularly need to download large files? In that case, 200 Mb/s or more is often the best choice.
Do you have a large home and want reliable Wi-Fi on every floor? Then it’s a good idea to compare providers that offer high-quality home Wi-Fi solutions using mesh technology.
KPN, Odido, and Ziggo offer home Wi-Fi solutions, each with a different price tag. With Odido and Ziggo, you can rent the Wi-Fi access points. You pay a few euros a month for this. You can also choose to buy them.
| Cost of home Wi-Fi solutions by provider | |
|---|---|
| KPN SuperWifi | Get 2 free access points worth €199 with internet and TV |
| Ziggo SmartWifi pods | €1.25 per month per unit (up to 3) |
| Odido Wi-Fi Plus | €2.50 per month per Wi-Fi point (up to 3) |
There can be significant price differences between internet providers. Depending on your needs, the price difference between the cheapest and most expensive provider can amount to tens of euros per month. That’s why we strongly recommend comparing providers.
This determines the price of your internet subscription
What you’ll pay for your home internet is primarily determined by the package options you do or don’t include. The overview below gives you an idea of the (additional) costs for your internet.
| Internet cost overview | |
|---|---|
| Internet only | Starting at €32/month |
| Internet & TV | Starting at €56 per month |
| All-in-One | Starting at €59/month |
| 1 Gbit/s Internet | €52.50 per month |
| Landline | + €1/month |
| TV package | + €12.50 per month |
| Additional TV receiver | + €2 to €4 per month |
| Wi-Fi solution | + €0 to €5 per month |
KPN is one of the largest internet service providers in the Netherlands, which means it has a more extensive network and more staff than most smaller providers. Although it is often not the cheapest option, it does offer better customer service than many budget providers. In general, KPN is known for its high-quality customer service, and with KPN, you pay more for enhanced service.
Ziggo is the only option for cable internet, especially in many areas where fiber-optic internet is not yet available. Ziggo is known for providing the fastest internet to households that do not yet have fiber-optic internet. Like KPN, Ziggo’s prices are higher due to its position as one of the largest internet providers in the Netherlands. This allows them to offer more comprehensive customer service compared to budget internet providers.
If you switch to a new internet service provider, it takes about 30 days for the switch to be fully complete. Although you can specify a start date, the provider will always send you your final start date.
After submitting your request, you have a 14-day cooling-off period to cancel it.
Are you switching to a new provider? Then you don’t need to cancel your subscription yourself. Most providers handle this between themselves without you having to do anything. Before switching, however, be sure to check the end date of your current contract. If you’re still tied to a one-year contract, you won’t be able to switch to another provider.
