Why switch energy suppliers?
By switching energy suppliers every year, you ensure that you never pay too much for your energy.
Has your fixed-rate contract expired, or do you already have a variable-rate contract? If so, we recommend switching to a fixed-rate energy contract. This way, you’ll pay lower rates and can take advantage of a welcome discount. You can easily save hundreds of euros on your energy bill every year.

How long does it take to switch energy providers?
Using our comparison tool, you’ll be signed up with your new supplier in just a few minutes. They’ll then handle the cancellation with your current supplier. You have a 14-day cooling-off period by law, and the cancellation notice period is a maximum of 30 days—with most suppliers, it’s as short as 5 business days. This means your switch is often complete within 2 to 3 weeks.
When can I switch providers?
Do you have a contract that can be canceled monthly, such as a variable-rate contract? Then you can switch right away without any worries. We recommend doing this as soon as possible so you don’t continue to pay too much for your energy.
Do you have a fixed-term contract that’s still active? Then you can only switch without a penalty within the suppliers’ “switch window.” This is usually about 2 to 3 months before the start date. This means you can request the switch now, but it won’t be processed until your contract ends.
Check the page on when to sign an energy contract to see the date you can switch. You can enter your contract’s end date in the tool on this page, and we’ll show you which suppliers you can switch to.
Good to know: if you’re subject to an early termination fee in your case, your current supplier is required to notify you. This way, you won’t face any surprises and can still decide not to switch.
How often can I switch energy suppliers?
As long as you don’t have a current fixed-term energy contract, you can switch energy providers as often as you like. There is no limit to this.
Do I need to provide my old contract or meter readings when switching providers?
If you have a smart meter, you don’t need to submit your meter readings yourself when switching energy suppliers. If you don’t have a smart meter, you’ll need to submit your meter readings yourself. You’ll always receive clear instructions from your new energy supplier on how to submit your meter readings.
Switching energy providers with district heating
If you have district heating at home, you cannot switch to a different heat supplier than the one that serves your address. Unfortunately, you do not have a free choice in this matter.
However, you can switch suppliers with an electricity-only contract. This is because the supplier is different from your heat supplier.
So even with district heating, it makes sense to compare energy suppliers. Electricity prices can vary significantly between suppliers, especially in today’s energy market.
