Comparing Electricity Plans Only: What Should You Look For?

Is your home connected to a block or district heating system, or do you heat with a heat pump? If so, you can easily save on your electricity costs by comparing electricity-only plans annually. Keep the following in mind:

1. Choose low electricity rates

Take advantage of this by choosing the energy supplier with the lowest electricity rates. The price per kWh from energy suppliers currently ranges from €0.24 per kWh to €0.28 per kWh.

2. Get a nice cashback

Even when comparing electricity-only plans, you can get a nice welcome discount. With 1-year contracts, you’ll receive up to €236 in welcome discounts, and with 3-year contracts, up to €240.

3. Pay attention to the fixed supply rates

Does a particular energy supplier offer the highest welcome discount, but do you end up paying more for the fixed delivery charges? If so, this is probably not the cheapest energy supplier for you. So be sure to also check the fixed delivery charges

Electricity-only energy suppliers

With us, you can compare electricity plans from all major Dutch energy suppliers.

Which energy suppliers offer only electricity?

If you're looking for an electricity-only plan, you have several options available. The following energy suppliers offer electricity-only plans:

Electricity-only energy suppliers:

  • Budget Thuis
  • Coolblue Energy
  • Delta Energy
  • Eneco
  • Energiedirect
  • Energiek
  • Engie
  • Essent
  • Gewoon Energie
  • Greenchoice
  • Innova Energy
  • Mega Energy
  • Oxxio
  • Powerpeers
  • Pure Energie
  • UnitedConsumers
  • Vandebron
  • Vattenfall

In addition to these suppliers, you can also choose a dynamic energy supplier.

Dynamic electricity-only suppliers:

  • ANWB Energie
  • Frank Energie
  • NextEnergy
  • Noord Energie
  • Tibber
  • Zonneplan

With a dynamic energy contract, you can benefit from lower electricity rates, but you do need to keep in mind that the price of electricity fluctuates throughout the day. If you can use electricity wisely during off-peak hours, a dynamic energy contract can be a very cost-effective choice for electricity alone.

Can I only sign up for electricity if I also have gas at home?

Yes, it is possible to sign up for gas and electricity with separate energy suppliers. But in most cases, it’s more cost-effective to get both gas and electricity from a single supplier at the same time, rather than just electricity with a separate gas contract. There are several reasons for this:

  • The cashback offers provided by suppliers are often higher for combined electricity and gas contracts, though it’s worth comparing these offers.
  • With current feed-in tariffs, there is little financial benefit to be gained from a separate electricity contract combined with solar panels if you also use gas. The differences in feed-in tariffs are limited, and the specific terms and conditions that apply to solar panels can affect the price.
  • Not all suppliers offer the option of electricity only or gas only. As a result, there is less competition in the market for standalone contracts, which leads to higher prices.

Therefore, compare which option is cheaper for your situation: electricity + gas together or two separate contracts—one for gas only and one for electricity only.
