Is "unlimited calling" on a SIM-only plan really unlimited?
With a SIM-only plan that offers unlimited calling, there’s no limit on your calling minutes, provided you use your calling allowance reasonably.
The criteria providers use to define “reasonable” usage are outlined in the Fair Use Policy. This is to prevent the plan from being used excessively and overloading the mobile network. Examples of unreasonable usage include leaving the connection open for extended periods to use it as a baby monitor or a telephone switchboard.
But rest assured. As long as you use your calling plan for regular calls, you’re unlikely to run into a limit.
Some providers have also set a limit in their terms and conditions on the number of call minutes and text messages per month. This limit varies by provider. The lowest limit is set by Lebara, at a maximum of 3,000 call minutes. That’s the equivalent of over 28 hours of calls per week.
